![]() I have heard it 10,000 times and I'm over it. I am having a straw that broke the camel's back moment with white men in journalism, who insist that either 1) activists are doing it wrong, 2) activists are upset over nothing, or 3) activists have actually tangibly destroyed our culture by distracting everyone from the Real Issues. he's mad that satire he admits is stuck in 1968 is possibly racist in some fashion? Again, I agree with him about the Hebdo cartoons, but. Mostly he's mad that he's a white man and so the most biting feminist and antiracist satire is denied to him, I guess. Or maybe Ames is just subconsciously offended by his own equation of naive (and often not naive) social justice defenders on Twitter with white supremecists and MRA harassers. Maybe I'm just annoyed since the last thing I read by Ames was his stupid feminists-are-hypocrites-for-having-sex Dworkin eulogy. One of the most revealing reactions to the Charlie Hebdo massacre came from Jon Stewart, who complained that “comedy shouldn’t be an act of courage.”Īs much as I agree about stagnant/suburbanite/liberal satire, I mean. Uh, why would he be criticized for punching down, exactly? :'(įact is, Swift today would be hounded off Twitter for "promoting child cannibalism as a solution to Irish poverty" demagogic satire-shamers would trash Swift for "punching down, not up"-because as every social media Stalinist will tell you, "satire should punch up, not down." No one likes my writing and I don't feel interesting now that I'm not a Stranger in a Strange Land, with all the prositutes I want. ![]() Horizontal hives can cost $300-600 while individual boxes for a vertical hive are ~$35-45 (my farm & ranch store marks them up to $60 but I know where to get equipment) rounding out a vertical hive's main price point at ~$200 when finished.Sloppy sloppy. As the horizontal hives tend to be made of single boards per side, the cost of a long board is much higher than shorter boards. With a horizontal hive, the boxes are not nearly as forgiving, taking the width of two pallets to themselves, and while they'll allow another box to be placed on top during storage, you definitely don't want these to be in storage mode. With excess equipment for vertical hives, the boxes stack neatly in most corners and can stay there safely for long periods. ![]() Standalone vertical hives may have more space around them so that you can adequately move fully around them and go from a full squat to standing under load without bumping into anything/one around you. With vertical hives, you're looking at about 3ft of space, most of it for elbow room for you as the keeper to be comfortable. Horizontal hives, have to be ~5-6ft wide, meaning that space is something you always have to be considering. Most methods of expansion (such as tail boxes) violate this strength by adding a new level of verticality to the hive. One of the greatest strengths of a horizontal hive (that they're all one level) can also be one of their great weaknesses in that they can't be expanded overall. Vertical hives tend to save space and are usually more modular. As there is no counter point just yet, I'll do my best.
